Amgen Breakaway from Heart Disease Women’s Race

Stage1
The first stage of the Amgen Breakaway from Heart Disease Women’s Race finished on the top of a steep 1,7 km climb. Apart from Shana Van Glabeke, everyone of our waowgirls was able to stay with the peloton until the beginning of the last climb.

Sofie De Vuyst put down the best performance and managed to finish 12th, only 25 seconds down from winner Megan Guarnier. Sarah Rijkes finished a 2:05 down in 68th position and Amélie Rivat and Bryony van Velzen crossed the finishline together in 74th and 75th position, 2:21 down from the stage winner. Shana Van Glabeke didn’t finish the race.

Stage 2
During the second stage, Sofie De Vuyst had to endure some stomach pains. She still managed to finish strongly though, crossing the finish lin in 18th position after a hard and mountainous stage, losing only 2:04 on the stage winner. Sarah Rijkes finished 51st, while Amélie Rivat and Bryony van Velzen crossed the finish line in 77th and 81st position.

Stage 3
The penultimate stage of the Amgen Breakaway from Heart Disease Women’s Race empowered with SRAM ended in a bunch sprint. Apart from Amélie, all our riders finished inside the peloton. Bryony van Velzen finished 33rd, Sofie De Vuyst 34th, Sarah Rijkes 59th and Amélie Rivat 76th.

Stage 4
The fourth and last stage just like the third one did: with a bunch sprint. Sofie De Vuyst, Bryony van Velzen and Sarah Rijkes finishing inside the peloton as 25th, 31st and 56th. Amélie Rivat lost some time and crossed the finish line in 80th position.

General Classification
In GC, Sofie De Vuyst completes the four-days stage race in 15th position, only 2:19 from winner Anna van der Breggen. Further down, we find Sarah Rijkes (53th), Bryony Van Velzen (72nd) and Amélie Rivat (76th).

Sarah wins Puivelde Koerse!

After winning at Sinaai last sunday (her first victory in a road race in over 10 years in cycling), Sarah Inghelbrecht found her winning legs again at Puivelde koerse on Saturday! After a race filled with heavy rain and a lot of dirt on the road, Sarah was part of a breakaway that got away in the last lap, which also included Lotte van Hoek. With this group of seven riders, they rode towards the finish line. Sarah showed her fast legs and outsprinted everyone to take her second victory in less than a week!

Lotte also finished in the breakaway in sixth place. Mieke Docx (34th), Tara Gins (39th) and Ditte Lenseclaes (45th) finished in the peloton.

Noa Jansen wins at Boezinge

& Shari Bossuyt is the new flemish champion!
The riders of our Development team really showed their strength at the Women Juniors race at Boezinge, which was held before the finish of the elite race Dwars door de westhoek. This race also doubled as the flemish championships. Noa Jansen won the race after an amazing solo of 48km, and a little later, Shari Bossuyt sprinted to third place. This resulted in receiving the the flemish title since she was the first flemish rider to cross the finish line. Ditte Lenseclaes finished fifth in the race and got the bronze medal in the fight for the flemish title!

Dwars door de Westhoek

In the elite race Dwars door de Westhoek, the peloton broke into three pieces after half an hour of racing due to the heavy winds. Monique van de Ree was part of the first group, being the breakaway. Four riders managed to escape from the breakaway, so Monique could sprint for fifth place. She got second of her group, so she was the 6th rider to cross the finish line. Sarah Inghelbrecht was the third fastest sprinter in the peloton and therefor finished 22nd. Saartje Vandenbroucke crossed the finish line in 61st position. Mieke Docx and Lotte Van Hoek didn’t finish the race.
