RACE REPORT - WEEK 3

Thalita wins the Kasteelcross!

16195591_760696024080527_2725924844973701793_nAfter nearly two weeks of training in Spain, Thalita de Jong participated at the Kasteelcross at Zonnebeke on Saturday, along with Mieke Docx. Thalita quickly had a good feeling on the bike, even though the course was slippery. With only two laps to go, Thalita decided to attack which immediately created a small gap. She managed to maintain the gap and won her first race in her Lares-Waowdeals championships outfit! Mieke crossed the finishline in 26th position.

One day later however, at the Cyclocross World Cup of Hoogerheide, there was no reason for celebration anymore. Thalita had an excellent start and quickly took the lead of the bunch. Unfortunately, she crashed hard during a steep and tricky descent. She got back up and tried to continue the race but soon realized that wasn’t an option due to the pain in her knee. After abandoning the race, she went to the hospital for a first checkup, followed by an MRI and Echo on Monday, which showed a torn muscle (Vastus Mediales) right above her knee. To let the muscle heal, Thalita will be out of competition for at least four weeks. This means she will not be able to defend her title at the upcoming World Championships at Bieles (LUX) this weekend.

Race results of Monique and Tara

On saturday, Thalita wasn’t the only rider of our team on the bike. Monique van de Ree participated in the cyclocross at Rucphen. Unfortunately, the race didn’t go as planned and she also crashed (without any damage). She finished 14th. Tara Gins participated in her first ever cyclocross at … on a regional level. She managed to put down a good result for her first one, even without crashing, and finished 8th.

Visiting our partners at Velofolies

Throughout the entire weekend, a few of our riders visited our partners who were present at the cycling fair Velofolies at Kortrijk and even helped to promote their products. Our complete development team (except Maggie Coles-Lyster ofcourse) also payed them a visit.
